Teen Volunteers

Teen Volunteers Wanted!

Whether you want to earn volunteer hours as part a group or organization, want to help make a difference in your community, or just enjoy spending time at the library, the library offers lots of opportunities for teen volunteers for those ages 14 & up.  Due to updates to the Michigan Youth Employment Standards Act, volunteers under the age of 18 are required to complete a work permit:

Work Permit for volunteers ages 14-15
Work Permit for volunteers ages 16-17

Why Volunteer at GTPL?

• Make a difference in your own community

• Build new skills that will help in future jobs

• Volunteer service can be listed on college applications

• Make new friends

• Gain insider knowledge of library events and new books

Volunteer Options:

• Book Reviews: Earn volunteer credits for every book from our collection that you read and fill out a book review form. Book reviews will be compiled and shared so other teen library users can discover new books recommended (or not!) by their peers.

• Occasional Volunteering: Sign up to help out at some of our large programs where extra help might be needed, such as Touch a Truck or the Holiday Extravaganza.

• Volunteer Day: Join us for a dedicated day of volunteering, offered quarterly on a Saturday. Help with library projects, brainstorm new teen programs, and more!

How to Become a Volunteer

Fill out the teen volunteer form and submit it to the library. After receiving your form, the youth services librarian will reach out to discuss the volunteer opportunities you have chosen. Please note that teen volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign the permission form. Volunteer forms need to be resubmitted at the start of each new school year.
